Ebenezer’s award-winning horticultural therapy program offers Minneapolis campus residents the opportunity to participate in four-season garden clubs. These groups involve residents in a wide array of activities related to plants, gardening, nature and the outdoor environment. Club members meet twice a month (weekly at our Care Center) with a horticultural therapist. There is also a monthly garden or nature-related outing. Other activities include:
- Creating seasonal fresh-cut floral arrangements
- Transplanting, growing and tending houseplants
- Garden- and nature-related outings to sites in the metro area and beyond
- Tending the fully handicapped-accessible summer flower gardens on campus
- Cooking with produce and herbs from our gardens
- Reading about nature and the great outdoors-related topics
- Learning how to attract birds and butterflies to our gardens
- Birds and butterfly watching
In 2001, Ebenezer's horticulture therapy program and spiritual care and healing garden was awarded “Innovation of the Year” by the Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance. MHHA is Minnesota’s largest statewide trade association for providers of older adult services. The award honors providers that have demonstrated creativity in programs and/or services to their customers.
